Lignocellulose: optimal crude fibre for feeding sows
Crude fibres have a positive impact on the animal welfare of breeding sows. The solubility and fermentability of the fibres are essential for this effect to take place. Insoluble and non-fermentable crude fibres such as our JELUVET® lignocellulose improve the sow’s well-being. But that’s not all! A field trial conducted in Brazil shows that our JELUVET® lignocellulose also has a positive influence on piglet breeding.
Lignocellulose and cellulose: dietary fibre for pet food
Lignocellulose and cellulose are used in pet food as dietary fibre - also referred to as crude fibre in animal feed. Both feed materials are neutral in taste. According to studies, the added dietary fibre in the food stimulates peristalsis, shortening the time it takes for the food to pass through the large intestine. Food rich in dietary fibre, therefore, prevents sluggish bowel movements and constipation. Both lignocellulose and cellulose bind water and give structure to the faeces, improving its consistency. Even animals with a tendency to soft, improperly formed stools can benefit from these dietary fibres. Do lignocellulose and cellulose, however, really have the same effects?
Crude fibre component low in phosphorus and nitrogen: lignocellulose
The substance flow balance of the new German Fertiliser Application Ordinance forces agricultural enterprises to set the phosphorus content of the feed accurately. Consequently, there is little room for variation in the phosphorus content. Different crude fibre sources can add different amounts of additional phosphorus to the ration. Lignocellulose, which is low in phosphorus, is especially suitable for use as a crude fibre component for a phosphorus-reduced feeding strategy.
PLMA Amsterdam: JELU draws positive balance
From 21 to 22 May 2019, more than 15,000 visitors came to the world’s biggest private label trade show in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to learn about innovative products and make new contacts. JELU is satisfied with the outcome of the trade fair and draws a positive balance.
JELU: Successful debut at Zoomark
JELU-WERK exhibited for the first time at the pet supplies trade fair Zoomark from 6 to 9 May 2019. Trade visitors to the fair were able to catch up on the latest trends in the pet supplies sector. On its show stand JELU presented its dietary fibres for pet food and organic litter products to an interested audience. The response to both product lines was great.
JELU at the international World of Private Label show in Amsterdam
From 21 to 22 May, JELU will again present itself at this year’s edition of PLMA’s World of Private Label trade show in Amsterdam. The company will exhibit its organic litter and bedding products made from untreated wood fibres. All litter and bedding products, COSYPET®, COSYFLOCK® and COSYCAT®, are low in dust and serve the needs of different animals. With COSYCAT®, JELU will showcase to the trade audience an organic cat litter with excellent clumping properties. Its low weight as well as its eco-friendly manufacture and disposal set it apart from other products. We look forward to your visit at stand F-8508 in hall 8.
JELU to showcase at Zoomark for the first time

Strong interest in crude fibre components at Figan 2019
Figan, the international trade fair for animal production, took place in Zaragoza, Spain from 19 to 22 March. JELU-WERK was represented by Barentz Campi Y Jove. Trade visitors were able to learn more about our crude fibre components JELUVET® and JELUCEL® on the stand of our Spanish partner.
